the shawheale STAG N’ HEN

friday 11th - sunday 13th september 2026

You are cordially, chaotically invited to a weekend in a Somerset field with the best people, several fire pits cooking Jim’s favourite food, competitive wine tasting and egg-pun related challenges, a quiz and (checks notes) a small flock of sheep who may or may not be gatecrashing. Let's get into it.

LOCATION

Wild Goose Glamping
Sandmead Cottage, Sandmead Road, Sandford, Somerset, BS25 5QQ

Pop that into your sat nav, or if you're feeling old-school, follow the Old Bristol Rd, then the B3134 and A368, until you hit Nye Rd in Sandford and you're basically there.

By train: Yatton Station, Somerset, BS49 4AJ is your nearest stop.

By bus: the U2 and 126 both go right past.

A couple of important bits so nobody gets a surprise on arrival:

  • It's a car-free site. Everyone parks up in the car park, then there are trolleys to wheel your luggage down to your lodge. Please bring them back to the storage building once you're unpacked.

  • There may be sheep. Just... in the field. Living their best life. Please don't try to recruit them for the Top Egg Games, they didn't sign up for this.

Who's Coming, From Where, And How

Genuinely useful bit - if you're driving and have space, or you need a lift, this is your chance to sort a car share before we're all frantically texting each other at 6am on the Friday.

  • Jim (he/him) & Soph (she/her) - Bristol - Our car - unlikely to have room for passengers from our place to site due to being full of food, but can pick people up from nearby bus/train stops once we arrive.

  • Christian (he/him) - Abergavenny

  • Emma Bayliss (she/her) - Manchester

  • Luke (he/him) - Bournemouth

  • Alex (she/her) - Bristol

  • Ro (she/her) - Bristol

  • Emma Boulton (she/they) - Bristol

  • Guy (he/him) - Bristol

  • Becky (she/her) - Bristol

  • Kinda (she/her) - London

  • Sam (she/her) - London

  • Peter Collen (he/him) - London - Arriving Saturday

  • Annie (she/her) - London - Arriving Saturday

Nobody asked to bring a dog, so nobody's dog has been pre-authorised to come. If anyone changes their mind, do let us know ASAP as we have to approve and pay for the dog’s stay in advance!

The Timber Safari Lodges

For those who aren’t camping, we’ll be staying in furnished lodges (ooooh).

Each lodge has its own little raised timber deck under canvas, proper seating, a drinks table, good lighting and its own fire pit. Big double doors, huge windows, loads of natural light, open-plan living. There's wifi, sofas, a coffee table, rugs, tea lights, a stack of board games and a pack of cards for when the chat turns competitive.

The kitchens have an oven, hob, fridge/freezer and hot water at the sink, plus washing up liquid, tea towels and the essentials. Big table for everyone to eat round together. Beds are made up before you arrive with duvets, pillows, linen and towels, plus extra rugs and hot water bottles for when it gets a bit chilly in the evening.

What To Bring

We've got you covered on both dinners, pudding and breakfasts - but you'll want snacks to graze on in between.

Jim has issued an official decree: everyone must bring one item of peak deliciousness to contribute to the group. Interpret it however you like - a genuinely stunning cut of steak from a proper butcher, an elite bag of crisps, a doughnut so good it should be illegal, a block of really nice butter. Show us what deliciousness means to you.

Also bring:

  • Your own booze/soft drinks

  • Two clear wine glasses, if you fancy a go at the competitive wine tasting (yes, competitive, yes, this is a real thing that's happening)

  • A non-white outfit, if the idea of red wine anywhere near your nice cream trousers fills you with dread

  • Comfortable shoes, because you will regret trying to do the Top Egg Games in your nice sandals

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD

For the core weekend crew:

17 x Everything eaters

3 x veggie

1 x vegan

Please do not bring these onto site under any circumstances - genuine allergies:

peanuts, shellfish, plantain, cuttlefish.

General dislikes (not allergies, just preferences to bear in mind): eggs, mushrooms, onions.

SATURDAY DINNER & PUD

On Saturday night we're being joined by some very important extra people for dinner. Sadly, they can't bring dogs and need to head off by 10pm, sensible o'clock.

Louise & Nick (Soph’s parents)

Gill & Adrian (Jim’s parents)

Sophie Wheale & Big Joe (Jim’s sister & brother in law)

Ben & Seb (Jim’s brother & brother in law)

Jenny, Amanda & Warren (Soph’s extended fam)

Mair & Rowan (all round legends)

Which bumps Saturday's dietary numbers up by an extra:

10 x Everything eaters

1 x Veggie

2 x Vegan

Boring But Important INFO

Smoking: not in the lodges or on the decking. If you're smoking out in the field, please don't fling your cigarette ends into the grass - the meadow is basically kindling waiting to happen and we don’t want to be the group that burns the place down.

Fire pits: every lodge gets a basket of logs to start you off. Need more? You can buy extra from the site but it has to be their wood, and no other fires or BBQs are allowed.

Hot water: it comes from an immersion tank, so supply is limited - if you drain it, the next person's getting a bracing surprise. Don't leave taps running for the sake of the planet (and your fellow guests), and be careful, because when it does come through hot, it comes through properly hot.

A Note From Soph, Mother Hen Herself

Hi guys - I am genuinely, properly honoured that you're all coming to celebrate our combined Stag N’ Hen!

The bit I'm in charge of is the Top Egg Games. As much as every single one of you is a top egg to me, some eggs will come out gooder than others. Think Crystal Maze, but egg-themed, in teams, with someone nominated from each team to attempt each challenge. Every game needs something different - brains, brawn, or something a bit more hard-boiled - so choose your egg-representative wisely.

No real eggs will be harmed in the making of this event, so nobody's getting "egged”, nor will it involve eating any actual eggs. You might, however, get wet. Consider yourself warned.

On the traditional hen side of things: There is no requirement to bring any certain costumes, sashes, props or penis-shaped memorabilia but if you have funny ideas do not let me stop you. I love funny ideas. I will be on the booze, but there’s no need to line up shots for me every five minutes in an attempt to get me shitfaced as I would like to try and enjoy the weekend without a soul-crushing hangover 🙏

Come ready to be your best eggy self - don't be a bad egg, don't get too scrambled and let's just see who can really crack it out there. Egg-cellent weekend awaits, yolks! 🍳

P.S The Stag is very excited and has lots of sticky notes in recipe books right now, but it’s not his style to produce any pre-event statements 🦌
